Aerial
Aerial is a collection of experimental works inspired by my relationship to music as a teenager. During my early days in music, I practiced on my fathers synthesiser, a Roland Phantom X6. I was obsessed with the thousands of sounds on it, sounds which I had never heard before. Some of them were quite wacky, however some sounds were ear candy. The one that caught my ear was the Aerial Harp. A lush, intimate, beautiful sound. It was a sound I never heard outside of the room with the synthesiser and that’s what began this journey to create this EP. I wanted to showcase this beautiful sound through a piece of works, inspired by teachings so far – Taking techniques/influences from Indian and electroacoustic music to create different soundworlds.
What I love about music is the journey of creating new soundworlds, a challenge I try to set myself when composing, to create so which sounds new to the ear. To explore new textures.
This is where my Electroacoustic skills, were applied. During my 3 years at Manchester University, I created a vast amount of electroaccoustic works which revolved around using non-musical sounds sources to create something musical. EA music showed me the countless ways of manipulating sound and these techniques were a focal part of creating these sounds worlds. Thank you David Berezan and Ricardo Clement for exposing me to this medium.
Hamsadhwani – Inspired from my Indian roots, this composition was based on a Hindustani raga, a Pentatonic raga. This raga was the first one taught to me by my father. Closest to the sound source with limited plugins.
The Ocean Bubble & Pacific 11034 – These 2 tracks were influenced and inspired by my sister, Diyaa and her 2022 journey underwater. Following her travels on instagram, scuba diving everyday in the vast seas of south Africa and hearing her experience was a catalyse for these 2 pieces.
Lost in Space & Harpeggiate – Using sound grains to create different textures. An experimental work using the function of an arpeggiator plugin to create light, airy textures.
Awakening – Using just one source had its limitations thus creative had to be inspired my manipulation and for Awakening I want to add a percussive element n some way. Now this took me a while.
