Rutik Joshi

Rutik Joshi is an aspiring composer based in Manchester, UK and has recently completed his bachelor’s degree in Music at the University of Manchester.

Rutik has been surrounded by music his whole life as his father, Rakesh Joshi, is a Hindustani Musician. However, it was much later when Rutik started to immerse himself in music; learning piano from the age of 13 and composing from the age of 15. In 2019, Rutik won the David Cullen Creative Arts Award for his performance in Music. Whilst studying music at the University of Manchester, Rutik had composed an extensive library of tracks, both solo and in collaboration with other artists. Rutik has also scored several student films with the Manchester Filmmaking Society, independent film makers, as well as produced music and foley for student games. Recent projects include scoring ‘Street Dogs’, a short film entering national film festivals. Working on diverse projects has offered insight into different styles and methods of music making, through which he can develop his craft and continue to challenge himself, furthering his versatility as a composer.

Rutik’s work can be heard across a wide variety of mediums, including film and songs. He has a very versatile approach to storytelling. With a classical background, writing for traditional instrumentation, and now a common practice. However, other influences include Indian (having performed with Bhartiya Vrundagan, an Indian choir) and electroacoustic composition, to which he was introduced while studying in Manchester
